July 31 (Bloomberg) -- New Zealand may split access charges to Telecom Corp.'s local phone network according to locality.
The country's telecommunications regulator is recommending Telecom's rivals pay NZ$16.49 ($13) a month for each urban customer they want to connect to the company's network. Users in rural areas would cost NZ$32.20 a month. Transferring a customer from Telecom's local service would incur a NZ$83.70 fee, Commissioner Ross Patterson said in a draft ruling filed with the New Zealand stock exchange.
The regulator will receive submissions on the proposal until Aug. 29.
